Fragrance, keeping it fresh

Spherix Incorporated has received a patent in the US for its invention to make fragrances last longer.
The company reports that the invention consists of preparing and using molecules that smell like those used in many fragrances, but which are of unique chemical structures.
These tailored molecules are unfamiliar to skin and hair bacteria that normally consume much of applied fragrances.Accordingly, the substitute molecules are not subject to bacterial degradation. As such, the newly designed fragrances last until they volatilise.
Inventor of the technology, and CEO of Spherix, Dr. Gilbert Levin, saidthat Spherix had already had some interest from fragrance product manufacturers.
"While most attention has been paid to use of the invention in perfumes, many other important usesexist, such as in industrial chemicals, air fresheners, insect repellants, lotions and personal care products," stressed Levin.
In a further development, Levin announced this week that he had ended earlier plans for the sale of a portion of his Spherix stock holdings.
