Our top highlights from Cosmoprof 2019
We attended this year’s Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna 2019, the global edition of the Cosmoprof series of trade events for the beauty industry. From probiotic claims, to CBD oil, to high end male grooming including colour cosmetics for men, the show played host to some of the most exciting innovators behind the biggest trends.

Sustainability

There were various show features and exhibitors dedicated to sustainability.

We saw an installation dedicated to what industry professionals want to see in the field of sustainability, encouraging visitors to be a ‘sustainable champion’.

One wish suggested by a visitor, for example, was that they want to see solid fragrance products on the market.

One example of the many brands on the showfloor dedicated to the push for sustainable beauty was Ben & Anna, a natural soda deodorant brand that is 100% natural origin, vegan and cruelty free, and uses 0% aluminium. Packaging for the brand’s products is made from recyclable paper.

Male grooming

We saw many brands and suppliers pushing the rising male grooming trend.

Formen, for example, is a brand that includes a range of colour cosmetics for men: blotting powder, facial concealer, under eye concealer, eyebrow pencil, foundation and more.

Another brand that caught our eye was The Gruff Stuff, a new premium market male grooming personal care brand from the UK.

Probiotics & CBD Oil

We’re seeing the evolving interest in the microbiome skin care space, and there were brands and products on show that tap into this rising niche.

We saw Kilig, a Lithuanian brand from parent company Biok Laboratorija, whose Derma range boasts probiotic claims.

“Every /kili⋅g/ derma product includes revolutionary Biotylis extracted from probiotics – the good bacteria that help restore your skin’s natural moisture and calmness,” the brand says.

We also caught up with Kuida, a new brand from Khiron in Colombia, which is one company leading the way with CBD-inspired skin care. The company told us it is expanding across Europe, in confirmation that the trend is rising in popularity across markets.

The trend for CBD personal care was a big focus at the show, with a dedicated session on the trend as part of the educational programme too.

Digital futures

And lastly, we were inspired by some of the digital solutions emerging at the Cosmoprof show.

One company, Revieve, offers a digital services that can analyse a selfie photo of a user, and then recommend relevant products for the user’s skin type and specific needs. At the show, Revieve was programmed to offer users recommendations from those products shortlisted for the Cosmoprof awards this year.

We also saw digital advancements behind the scenes, further back in the supply chain. Editor Lucy Whitehouse chaired a panel discussion on the rising use of automated solutions and robotics in the supply chain, featuring insights from market-leading experts in this space that suggest the future of supply chains is set to be digitised.

A show feature dedicated to this was the Cosmopack Factory, a functional factory supply chain working live on the showfloor to produce shower oil, using robotics in its machinery and creating a product that boasted a sustainable profile.
