SCS opens the doors on cosmetic science

Cosmetic science is at the heart of an exhibition that started today in Birmingham, UK. Organised by the British Society of Cosmetic Scientists, over two days SCS Formulate​ is a platform for an extensive programme of technical presentations dealing with new ingredients.

On the podium this week, Uniqema Personal Care will discuss new formulation opportunities in UV Protection, Swedish company Karlshamns is set to talk about shea butter as a formulating tool for skincare, and newly formed fragrance and flavours company Symrise will take a look at 'moisturising diol blend with superior anti-microbial properties'.

In addition, Vincience will discuss the generation of cosmetic active ingredients under the title, 'Riad Domloge Anti-stress "Heat Shock Proteins"'. Thor Specialities in the UK will present the development of novel in vitro models for the toxicological assessment of preservatives/cosmetic ingredients and Sederma will take a look at 'Venuceane: Heat stable detoxifying enzymes from deep sea bacteria: a viable alternative in vitro and in vivo to Vitamin E' and Rahn will promote defensil, a new active ingredient for 'sensitive and demanding skin.'

According to the UK Society of Cosmetic Scientists, they devised SCS Formulate in recognition of the importance of the UK market. 'It is designed to meet the needs of formulators, to keep them fully informed and up to date on all aspects and developments relating to the formulation of personal care products,'​ said the sixty year old society this week.
