Workshop focuses on sourcing native ingredients from Peru and Colombia

Staying within these regulations is not always easy, so a new one day workshop put together by UNITIS, the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) and industry association Cosmetics Europe aims to help businesses navigate this area.

Held in Pars, at La Cour Boétie, on December the 6^th​, the one day workshop offers a full programme aimed at helping business to provide Access to Benefit Sharing (ABS) to the genetic resources of these two countries in a fair, equitable and law-abiding way.

How to navigate ABS regulations​

Measures to provide access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits  throughout the Latin American region are still in their early days of implementation, so navigating the regulations often requires specific expertise.

Tough measures implemented by the Brazil government aimed at protecting the Brazilian rain forests are leading many companies to look further afield, which is why Peru and Colombia are now becoming increasingly important for the sourcing of such materials.

This workshops aims to help navigate European businesses around the regulations, by providing presentations from environmental experts from both countries, a focus on the resources that are available on the subject, as well as networking and questions and answer sessions.

The programme​

The full day of presentations last from 10am till 5pm and will include a total of ten presentation, together with an opportunity for businesses to meet sector organisers at the end.

The programme will include two case studies – one on companies that have included ABS approved ingredients in their products and one that will focus on the experience of EU ingredients suppliers that has fulfilled ABS requirements in Peru and Colombia.
